ER – Season Finale Goes Bang Bang Blah
May 19, 2006 by Wendy Boswell
Yes, I watched ER last night AND Will and Grace. I had four laundry baskets to kill.
Not having really kept up with ER this year (once Carter left I lost interest), I found last night’s episode strangely predictable. The biggest issue that I had with it? Abby Lockhart’s hair. Dear LORD, woman, cut your bangs. There’s a Supercuts on every corner, okay?
Anyway, Neela gets picked up by Pratt to go to Gallant’s funeral, who will be her next love interest BUT it will be complicated because playboy Shane West will be making a play for her as well. How do I know this? Because ER is so painfully predictable. Mark my words, I’m totally right. Then she goes off on Michael’s dad because he’s the type that says things like “it’s a good day to die” at his son’s funeral. Yeahhhh……excellent plot twist, there, Michael “Jurassic Park Was My Last Real Effort” Crichton. We never saw THAT one coming.
Okey dokey, back to the hospital, where some convicts come in including the always indefatigable Sam’s ex Steve, a real winner if we ever saw one. Oh, and we keep getting glimpses of Luka and Abby. She’s not ready for a committment…huh, now where have I heard that storyline before…could it be because it’s the SAME ONE WITH HER EVERY SEASON. Gah, I swear.
Fast forward to the interesting parts – there’s a big shootout, Luka gets injected with something potentially lethal (of course), Jerry gets shot saving the kid he befriended at the beginning of the show, which brings me to my next point. ER and Star Trek have a lot in common. If you make friends with a kid, you will probably die or have something horribly disfiguring happen to you by the end of the episode. It’s the Star Trek Red Shirt effect.
Abby falls over while taking care of Jerry and there’s blood, of course. And Luka is tied up, trying to get to her. Which is a metaphor! This MEANS something! This is SIGNIFCANT! Because, you know, they can’t seem to commit because there’s always something in the way and oh, wow, who cares. Honestly. Bring George Clooney back, please.

Hmm, when I got my bangs cut in, someone told me I looked like Maura Tierney.
They’re quite in style, actually.
And yes, I got them CUT TO BE that long.
Oh! The offensiveness!
The most predictable plot turn of all was that Gallant was killed in Iraq. When he first learned he was going to Iraq, I said “He’s a dead man… there is NO WAY the writers of this show are letting him come home a hero”.
I thought that it was ADA’s on Law and Order that were suffering from the red shirt effect.
And BTW, getting married on ER is not good for longevity either. Mark marries Liz and he gets a brain tumor. Michael marries Neela and gets blown up by an IED. It’s much safer to get married off screen.
Doug Ross will undoubtedly live a nice long time.
Does anyone know the song that played at the end of ER’s season finale???? I want to know what it was and NBC won’t respond!!!
Nevermind, I got it from another thread – Open Your Eyes by Snow Patrol!!!
Thanks anyway,

I also thought the seasons finale was quite predictable, but I still loved every moment of it. I was in tears when Abby fell over..Which by the way is she dead? Was it a miscarriage? Oh my, do I love ER..george clooney or not..the show is always going to be the epitemy of real life..at least to me anyway..I cannot wait unitl next season!!!!
Does anyone know the name of the song that played at the beginning of the episode when Gallant was involved in the roadside battle?
Actually, Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) will return as Neela’s new love interest, so you are Wrong with a capital W…..not so predictable, are they?
I would like to make a comment because yall are useless fans. If yall keep on putting down ER, then why are yall fans of the show. I jsut think you shouldn’t be talking about a show like that if you call yourself fans. I though the the finale was sad, nail-bitting, and AWESOME!

The song played at the beginning of the episode when Gallant was involved in roadside battle is called Golddigger by Kanye West ft Jamie Foxx Its excellent!
I love ER and can’t wait for the next season to begin. oh and by the way ER got good after George Clooney left and it aint always predictable!
ER RULZ!!!
ER is amazing! abby better not die, and how the hell was that ending predictable?
That was one of the best yet! That is why ER has made it 12 seasons…Abby has to be ok, she is one of the most developed on the show. I CAN’T WAIT!!! (for the new season, too many questions left to answer)
if Abby dies i’m so throwing myself off a bridge. well, not really but it would really suck. I think she is the main character, like HS said, she is the most developed on the show.
I agree that this season finale was anything but predictable. Gallant dies… there was a 50% chance of that happening as I saw it. He either comes back or he doesn’t. ER was never afraid to kill off main characters and since Gallant’s storyline was interesting but now his death makes Neela’s storyline even more interesting I would say it was a smart decision. For the original talk about Abby not sommitting and being the same then that person pretty much underscored their statement of not watching ER much anymore. Watch the show before you decide every character is the way you think they are in your cutoff perspective of them. Abby is Abby but as a character she has developed as much as any other. From nurse to Dr., From alcoholic to potentially the happiest times of her life with Luka and the new baby. Anyway, it’s one thing to not like the show on it’s own merits but it’s another to couch it in some ill informed knowledge base. If you don’t watch it regularly then you just can’t comment intelligently about it.
I thought the finale was fantastic! I was totally gripped n I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen (not tht I would want to). I really hope Abby is ok and the baby, I tought the end when she fell n when Luka saw but couldn’t do anything I was practically crying. Can’t wait for the new season.

I love ER, everytime I think I’m done with the show because they brought in new characters, they just draw me back in. “Everytime I think I’m out, they pull me back in”.
