Was Prince’s guitar in the Super Bowl meant to be a giant penis?

February 7, 2007 by Wendy Boswell

Here’s what he looked like behind the big curtain:

So here’s the big kerfuffle:

Prince’s acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer’s symbol) had phallic connotations for some.

May I field this question, America? You’re wondering if Prince includes phallic imagery into his shows and music? I think I can safely say OF COURSE, YOU DUMBASS. This is PRINCE, for Pete’s sake, the man who wrote "I Just Want To F**K You" and sang about other nasty but deliciously thrilling things.

Prince without a giant penis is just not my cup of tea, yall. And yes, I realize how that sounds.

What a stupid question. I second the motion! ALL guitars are phallic symbols. Not that musicians have to compensate like Corvette and Hummer owners.
