New album plans from Britney Spears’s producer

April 4, 2007 by Wendy Boswell

As long as she keeps her head on straight and stays away from clubs, I think she’ll do a good job.

Britney Spears is in the media again, but this time for all the right reasons. Rather than returning to her partying ways, Britney Spears has emerged from her 28-day stint at the Promises rehab facility in Malibu, California and had headed back into the studio. This time around, Britney Spears has teamed up with a new producer in her attempt to relaunch her music career.

Sean Garrett, the music producer who has worked with the likes of Usher, Destiny’s Child, Chris Brown, Nelly and Mary J. Blige, has confirmed he is working with Britney Spears on her as-of-yet untitled 5th studio album. During the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, Garrett told People magazine of Spears’ comeback project that, "It’s really coming together right now. I know she’ll do exceptionally well now that she’s out of rehab."

After announcing he would be producing five songs for Britney Spears’ new album, Sean Garrett gave music fans an update on the status of the new album. People magazine quoted Garrett as saying the new album, "is like ‘Toxic’ times 10. It’s going to be a lot of fun and it’s really exciting. We did a lot of great work before her break." As for Britney Spears’ recent time in rehab, Garrett had nothing but praise for the 25-year-old. "Britney is a superstar," Garrett said. "She definitely knows how to handle herself, but it’s tough sometimes. The pressure sometimes gets to you, but I think she has done such a great job keeping her composure under the circumstances."

With the confirmation that Sean Garrett has signed up to help Britney Spears return to the top of the pop charts, it looks like Britney might have all the support she needs to do just that. Since January of 2007, Britney Spears has reportedly enlisted the help of Timbaland, whose collaboration with Nelly Furtado has resulted in three number one tracks. Timbaland was also rumored to have convinced Britney’s former lover, Justin Timberlake, to work with Spears on a track. Spears was previously working with R&B producer Lukasz Gottwald, who has collaborated with the like of Missy Elliot, Mos Def and Kelis in the past. With Gottwald in the producer’s booth, Ne-Yo had been penning the songs for Britney Spears, and he told CBS at that time, "She’s trying to cross a few lines, she’s got some stuff that’s kinda R&B-ish, some stuff that’s very pop-ish, some stuff that’s almost a little electronica sounding. I think, judging just off the music that I’ve heard - because I’ve heard some of the other stuff she’s done with other producers - I think that she might have a shot at coming back. If she can just get her personal life out of the way, I think she has a shot at coming back."
