Verizon pulls their sponsorship of Akon after simulated onstage rape of underage girl
HA! This hopefully will make these "artists" think twice before pulling stunts like this.
Verizon has ended its partnership with hip-hop star Akon after he simulated the rape of a 15-year-old girl on stage at a show in Trinidad, FOX News has confirmed.
The girl thought she had won a dance contest, but instead got a simulated rape, which was caught on video.
"This week the partnership ended," Verizon said in a statement sent to FOX News. "We have music services on our cellphone service and we were promoting him as one of the artists. The other part of the sponsorship was the Gwen Stefani tour, of which he was an opening act. We are no longer sponsoring the tour."

I want to thank those who campaigned to get Verizon Wireless to sever its relationship with Akon. I actually thought I was singularly responsible for that because my tiny little blog, whataboutourdaughters.org, had a campaign to get them to drop him and I featured it on my internet talk show last week and awarded Verizon Wireless our Wagging Finger of Shame Award.
I think there plenty of us that are equally outraged about the portrayal of African American women in popular culture . Following the Oprah Town Hall meeting I decided to create a website to serve as a clearing house of all of the grassroots effort out there to combat misogyny in music. Whataboutourdaughters.org. I think that it is time to DEFUND THE WAR ON BLACK WOMEN! Period. End of discussion. This isn’t about artistic expression. This is about capitalism. People have a right to basically say whatever they want to, but I don’t have to subsidize it in any way. Hence the term “starving artist.”

Well it is official. I dropped Verizon like it was hot today. Upgraded to Comcast and am very very happy so far!!
As for Akon being a horses ass better read your Chinese Face reading book and think about what you are saying. He has a horn in his head and it does not mean he is an idiot.
