Lucky couple gets to have wedding at Wal-Mart
Nothing says romance like cheap Chinese merchandise, right?
New Iberia’s Kymberlie DeRouen figured she and fiance William Guidry were due for a little good luck. She just didn’t know how fortunate they would get.
DeRouen and Guidry won a wedding at Wal-Mart, 1205 E. Admiral Doyle Drive, as part of the company’s nationwide “Lucky in Love” search. They will march down the Wal-Mart aisles at 7 p.m. July 7 (7-7-07), thanks to DeRouen’s essay.
The July 7 date is a highly prized one for couples seeking a touch of good karma for their vows. It’s the kind of lucky seven chance that won’t occur again soon, and many facilities have been booked well in advance.
Naturally, there are seven winning couples nationwide in the contest.“My oldest sister got married last month, on the 29th,” DeRouen said. “I was looking up things for her in the Wal-Mart registry, and I saw something about their contest. I wrote a beautiful essay. I was shocked when I won. I jumped on the bed and woke my fiance up.”
DeRouen’s 15-month-old daughter could be heard in the background as she checked off her hectic schedule until the nuptials.
“Wal-Mart has been on top of everything. … It took less than a week to plan the wedding,” she said.
They turned their attention to marriage as DeRouen helped Guidry repair his home after Hurricane Rita. During the cleanup, they found a love letter she had written him and took that as a sign they should be together.
It is framed in their home.
“Considering that Wal-Mart is like a second home to us, we’re excited to have our wedding there,” DeRouen said. “Billy and I have been through so much during the last couple of years, so we truly consider ourselves lucky in love.”
I’m speechless. I’m scared of my local Wal-Mart, it’s like freaking Deliverance mixed with Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion there.
