Helen Mirren loved coke back in the day

Helen Mirren, who is absolutely one of my favorite actresses and pretty much should get an Oscar or some kind of award for every movie she’s ever been in, has admitted that she “dabbled” in a smidgen or two of cocaine in her younger years. You know, just at parties.

Seriously, I must be at the wrong parties, because I never see anything exciting like cocaine. The closest I’ve ever gotten to seeing some white powder at a party was talcum powder spilled all over the coffee table after my friend changed her 8 month old baby there. Yes, I live a very exciting life, can’t you tell?

Anyway, I don’t think any less of Helen Mirren for letting us know she used cocaine a little bit; what’s interesting is how she decided to give it up:

“But what ended it for me was when they caught (Nazi war criminal) Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, in the early 80s. He was hiding in South America and living off the proceeds of being a cocaine baron.

“And I read that in the paper, and all the cards fell into place, and I saw how my little sniff of cocaine at a party had an absolute direct route to this … horrible man in South America,”

That should totally be a new rehab slogan, don’t you think? “Let the Nazis Help You Kick That Filthy Habit!” Do you think that there’s a Nazi I could pin my habit of eating too much pastry on?
