Bill Maher takes on religion with Sherri Shepherd on The View
September 30, 2008 by Wendy Boswell
Bill Maher, who is currently promoting his new film Religulous, made fun of religion in general on The View this morning, especially with Sherri Shepherd, who has been VERY vocal about her personal beliefs. Watch:
If you didn’t catch it, here’s what they said exactly:
“When you did this movie, you talked to a lot of people about God — have you ever just talked to God, and asked God what does he think?”
When Maher asked Sherri if God ever answered her, and she said that he did, Maher said: “Well then we should call Bellevue.” Bellevue is a New York hospital known for its psychiatric facilities, so basically he’s saying that everyone who has some kind of religious beliefs is a nutjob. He’s entitled to his beliefs, but he’s still kind of a douche.

Maher is one of the only truely honest people on television. I am also an atheist and I believe the idea of religion at some point will become moot.
I don’t think I’ll survive to see that day, nor does that fact really weigh on my mind. It’s just a prediction of what I think will come.
No gods, no kings, no rulers, just man and man alone.
Nope, you are intentionally mischaracterizing his statement. It is unarguably clear that he meant if you believe God has directly spoken to you, you are crazy. And he’s right.
